MARSHES AND LAGOONS
Marshes and lagoons make up a considerable portion of Cagliari's environment. The Sardinia's capital eco-system is considered a unique natural feature in the whole of Europe. Cagliari's boundaries are in fact marked by the Molentargius and Santa Gilla Ponds, where plenty migrant birds, as Flamingoes and dwarf herons, opt to nest.
These ponds are part of a bigger system, linking the Saline (the old Salt Mines) to the Quartu Pond and the Simbirizzi basin. You can admire Pink Flamingoes, coots, cormorants and mallards. In the Bellarosa area more birds sightings: moorhens, swamp hens, purple herons, marsh harriers, snipes and many more.
