Nature and Beaches

White sands, parks and lagoons with pink flamingoes

The sea is not Cagliari's boundary but its completion and its soul. Poetto: more than five kilometers long, this beach of fine sand brushes the city till the horizon line, framed by the Sella del Diavolo (Devil's Saddle), the unmistakable headland holding Cagliari 's Marina and the neighboring towns' seafront. Poetto, "the hundred thousand" beach. Along the coastline, past the gulf, inlets and coves, as Calamosca, Cala Fighera, Capo Sant'Elia, beautiful also to approach from the sea.

Cagliari is a perfect ecosystem. A perfect balance between the sky, the earth and the water. The sea but also lagoons and natural oasis, a unique feature all over Europe . The pink flamingoes find their natural habitat at the Vecchie Saline (the Old Salt-mines). Visit the Molentargius pond, a natural reserve to many fauna and flora species. To the west, Santa Gilla pond, the magic location of the first Carthaginian settlers. The quiet Orto Botanico (Botanic Gardens) downtown, preserves ancient Roman reservoirs and some rare specimen of Mediterranean and Tropical flora. From the top of the city hills you can enjoy the most magnificent views: Giardini Pubblici (the City Park ), Monte Urpinu, San Michele Hill and the Monte Claro Park
