Cagliari is the regional capital of Sardegna. It is in a favourite spot, as for Nature and Climate, being in the south section of the Island. Its area is 85, 45 km2 and the local residents are, as by 2010 data, 156.686. The metropolitan population, including the nearby towns of Monserrato, Selargius, Quartucciu, Quartu Sant'Elena, Capoterra, Elmas, Assemini and Sestu, goes up to 370.000.
It is a friendly and lively city, the perfect place for holidays and for cultural events.
Climate
Being close to the sea, its climate is very mild, and the average temperature is about 16°/19° degrees. In January the average temperature is about 9°, in summer between 22°/26°.
This makes Cagliari a city to visit all year round!
Shopping
Business hours are as follow: 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. in summer and lunch break between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. In the afternoon the shops will be open till 8 or 8.30 p.m. Shopping malls have an open-all-day policy including Mondays, whilst shops are closed on Monday morning. Generally shops are closed on Sundays, but on specific periods (as Christmas or Easter time) some could be open.
Bank
Banks' business hours are 8.30 a.m. and 1.15 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. till 4 p.m. after the lunch break.
Lunch Time
Breakfast time is usually served between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Lunchtime is in between 12.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Dinner usually around 8 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Language
Official language is Italian. The majority of the local people also speak the Campidanese variant of Sardinian. An increasingly number of tourist business and trades can speak English as well.
Religion
A big majority of Cagliaritani are Roman Catholics but you will find other religious faiths too, such as the Orthodox and the Islamic.
